DIY Gold Tissue Paper Garland

My goal the past few months is to just use what I have to be creative and decorate my house throughout the seasons. I was decorating my mantle for spring and wanted to add some little touches to it.  I decided to make some garland out of tissue paper and here’s how it turned out:

Here’s the garland all finished.

It was so cheap and so easy!  Here’s how I did it.

I found this gold tissue paper in my gift wrapping stuff and thought it’d be perfect!

I simply laid out the sheets, staked them on top of each other, and then cut each section into squares. You’ll have multiple stacks of 5 small pieces of tissue paper.  I’m sure there’s a better way to measure and make it equal, but I simply did it the lazy/Serretta way. ?

I made sure that each stack had the shiny side up every other piece of paper so that the flowers would look evenly gold from every angle.

I then folded each stack like a fan(where you fold on every other side).

I then cut a rounded edge so that they will look like pedals.

To make it somewhat even, I lined up the edges and cut. As you can see, I lazily just eyeballed cutting them, you can definitely use a template or line it up to look perfect.

Here they are folded and cut.

I didn’t have enough twisty ties to do all of them so I used floral wire. Other items you could use instead twist ties, flimsy wire or pipe cleaners. Just be sure to use something that’s easy enough to twist and cut.

I wrapped the wire right down the middle and twisted the ends together.

I trimmed the edges so that you couldn’t see any of the wire once you spread out the tissue paper/pedals.

Spread each end out so that you can start to see how it’ll look like a flower.

Okay, these next few steps you need to CAREFULLY(if not, the paper will rip) separate and pull up the layers make them into a shape of a flower.  I tried to take pictures of how I did it but you might need to eyeball it until you get the shape you want.  Once you figure out the first one it’s pretty easy.

Here they are all done!

I then lined them up and glued them to some twine.

I tried to space them out somewhat evenly and then used hot glue to attach them to the twine.

All done! Now all you have to do is hang it!

Just a fun little touch to my spring mantle.  You can see how I made that embroidery hoop wreath here.

This project is a little time consuming but I just turned on a show and made them.  The fun thing about tissue paper is that you can make any color and it’s so inexpensive!  This cost me nothing and it’s the perfect little detail to my mantle.  What do you think?  Do you like the gold?  What color would you have chosen?  I’d love to see what you think about it and what you’re making!  If you have any questions or one of my directions doesn’t make sense, please let me know!  I’m happy to help and would love to clarify anything that you want to know.

Love you all!
